A “2-meter waterproof” headline needs more detail before an industrial buyer can rely on it. Depth by itself does not tell you the immersion duration, water conditions or the state of a device after wear and repair.
Read the exact test conditions
Ask which model and configuration was tested, the water depth and duration, whether the device was new, and whether all ports and covers were closed. An IP rating describes testing under specified conditions; it is not a promise that every field situation, chemical spill or high-pressure wash is covered. Request the relevant test report when the claim matters to procurement.
Match the risk to the worksite
For a wet construction site, a brief rain exposure is different from repeated submersion. Add the site's actual hazards to the evaluation: dirty water, drops before immersion, temperature changes, cleaning chemicals and charging while wet. Follow the device's care instructions and inspect seals and covers before use.
Set an acceptance rule
Write down the required exposure and the evidence needed to approve a model. Confirm the warranty terms for liquid damage and test a sample under a safe, agreed procedure. If a Phonemax model is under consideration, verify its own published rating and test conditions rather than transferring a claim from another product.
