Branding an existing rugged phone does not create a new ingress rating. An OEM project should preserve the tested hardware and carry accurate water-resistance conditions into the product page, packaging and user guide.
Separate cosmetic and hardware changes
List the logo, packaging and software changes alongside any new cover, connector or button. Cosmetic artwork may leave sealing unchanged, but structural alterations need engineering review. Confirm that the order uses the same enclosure and sealing revision as the relevant report.
Write instructions users can follow
Identify protective covers that must be closed, approved cleaning methods and restrictions on charging while wet. Avoid “fully waterproof” wording without stated conditions. Include the inspection and service procedure after a damaged screen, impact or seal replacement.
Align every sales surface
Check the carton, insert, dealer sheet and online description for the same model and test conditions. A supplier's generic photograph can show a different variant, so verify ports and closures against the actual OEM sample. Keep warranty terms separate from laboratory claims.
X5 baseline
The X5 description states IP68 under laboratory conditions and warns that wear, damage and incorrectly closed covers can reduce protection. Preserve those limits if the OEM hardware is unchanged. If it is altered, obtain evidence for the final version before using the same rating. Review a production sample together with the final packaging before shipment.
