Thermal AGC: Verify Contrast Changes and App Controls

Automatic gain control can change the appearance of a thermal scene; ask which controls the supplied application actually provides. This page does not verify a particular AGC algorithm, manual scale lock or region-of-interest control in a Phonemax handset.

Understand the display question

FLIR describes AGC as mapping thermal data into a displayable intensity range. In its example, the overall brightness may change when a new object enters the scene. That is an image-presentation explanation, not proof that a target's temperature changed.

Observe a stable target while the scene changes

Ask the supplier to demonstrate the same target with and without another hotter or colder object in view. Record the mode, scale and any displayed numeric readings separately. Do not infer a quantitative temperature change from colour alone.

Verify available controls without inventing features

  • Which automatic modes are available?
  • Can the user fix or adjust a display scale?
  • Does the chosen mode affect the saved file?
  • Are settings retained when the application restarts?

Keep reporting consistent

If an inspection depends on comparing repeated images, document the actual settings and explain presentation changes to reviewers. Request separate accuracy evidence when numeric readings are used for an acceptance decision.

Source and limit

FLIR: scene changes and AGC. Its example is not a feature declaration for Phonemax. No original app-control or measurement test is presented here.
