For a rugged-phone ODM project, record each proposed change and ask which existing evidence still applies to the resulting configuration. A sample approved before a housing, module or software change is not a complete acceptance record for the changed device.
Start with a fixed baseline
Name the reference model, hardware revision, software build, included accessories and target market. Attach the approved specification and sample reference to the project. Then describe the requested difference clearly enough for engineering and procurement to review the same change.
| Requested change | Question for the project review |
|---|---|
| Exterior or enclosure detail | Does the change affect fit, openings or the scope of existing protection evidence? |
| Battery or charging arrangement | Which safety, charging and endurance checks need review? |
| Memory or a hardware module | Which applications and interfaces need another acceptance check? |
| Pre-installed software or settings | What happens to app access, provisioning and update behavior? |
| Labels, packaging or destination | Do the delivered identifiers and required documents describe the final version? |
Separate feasibility from approval
Phonemax's OEM/ODM page describes branding, software, packaging and selected configuration work, subject to platform and project evaluation. It states that final specification, MOQ, lead time and compliance scope are confirmed after evaluation. An option appearing on that page does not establish approval for every model.
Use a short change record
Keep the old specification, requested difference, engineering response, affected evidence, required evaluation and approval status together. Leave unresolved items open. If a change is accepted, identify the sample and final build used for that acceptance so a production substitution cannot silently inherit an earlier result.
The current R4-T listing, for example, identifies Android 14 and 8GB+128GB. It can be a reference configuration for a discussion; it does not establish a custom battery, memory or enclosure option.
Send Phonemax the baseline and proposed changes. This article proposes change control; it does not confirm engineering feasibility, certification coverage, pricing or delivery terms for a custom device.
