Real-Time Thermal Streaming: Measure End-to-End Delay

“Real-time” can describe very different experiences. A thermal phone may display frames promptly while a remote viewer receives them later because of encoding, Wi-Fi, cellular upload or the receiving application.

Measure the full path

Test from the moment a target changes to the moment that change appears on the remote screen. Record sensor frame rate, display behavior, upload connection and receiving device. Repeat with the network conditions typical of the worksite.

Check failure behavior

Disconnect the network briefly. Does the app stop, buffer, lower quality or save a local copy? Confirm whether timestamps remain useful after reconnection and whether sensitive images are shared only with authorized users.

Choose a task-specific threshold

Remote consultation may tolerate a delay that is unacceptable for live positioning. Set a maximum delay and minimum image clarity before buying. Ask for a demonstration on the exact model and app configuration instead of relying on a generic streaming label.
