A supplier's IP68 offer is easier to assess when three things line up: the named phone, its ingress report and the service process. Buyers should ask for that chain of evidence before treating a generic “waterproof rugged phone” listing as a complete specification.
Identify the sold configuration
Record model, hardware revision, region and any case or port-cover differences. Request immersion conditions and report details for that configuration. If a report names another model or an early sample, ask how it applies to the purchased version.
Review support after damage
Ask who supplies replacement screens, seals and covers, how repair is performed and whether sealing is checked afterward. Establish which exposures the manufacturer's instructions permit. A water-resistance label does not answer warranty questions by itself.
Use a sample to assess handling
Check whether users can close protective covers correctly with the accessories and gloves they use. Inspect the fit of the charger and SIM tray, and make sure instructions are legible. A controlled laboratory report should be combined with correct everyday handling, not replaced by a casual immersion demonstration.
Current Phonemax example
The X5 page provides an IP68 claim and clear care limits, including closed covers and no charging while wet. Match a supplier's X5 offer to that exact variant and obtain any additional report required by the purchase. Retain the source documents and sample record so a later substitution or repair can be reviewed.
