A −20°C Rugged Phone Requirement: Operating, Storage and Charging Limits

A −20°C requirement should say what the phone must do at that temperature. Storage while switched off, powered operation and charging are separate conditions. A supplier should document each limit for the finished handset and battery.

Turn the requirement into a task

Specify exposure time, starting charge, screen use, calls and data traffic. Decide whether the phone must start from a cold state or can remain powered. List pass criteria such as completing the required app task without an unexpected shutdown. Avoid treating one short call as a full-shift endurance result.

Read three temperature ranges

Request operating, storage and charging ranges, including any battery-management restrictions. Ask whether the specification applies to ambient temperature or an internal component reading. The charger and battery should be the ones supplied with the approved configuration.

Match evidence to a model

The current X5 page lists a 5000mAh battery and IP68, but does not state a −20°C operating range. Those facts cannot establish cold operation. Request a dated model-specific range and report if this is a mandatory condition.

Acceptance record

Keep the hardware revision, battery part, firmware, test temperature and task outcome with the order. Mark a missing range as unresolved rather than converting an outdoor-use description into a precise temperature guarantee.
