IP68 and a 1.5-meter drop claim describe different requirements and need separate evidence. Ingress classification concerns the enclosure. A drop claim needs its own conditions, such as the impact surface, orientations and post-test function checks. Neither phrase automatically proves the other.
Build two lines in the acceptance record
| Requirement | Evidence to request | Common gap |
|---|---|---|
| Enclosure protection | Exact model, applicable IP report and closure conditions | A family-level marketing image instead of a report |
| 1.5-meter drop | Height reference, surface, orientations, repetitions and sample configuration | Height alone, with no test method |
| Condition after impact | Defined functional checks and any separately performed ingress retest | Assuming a working screen proves unchanged sealing |
The IEC 60529 publication identifies the enclosure-classification framework. For an environmental test claim, the MIL-STD-810 record is useful background on tailoring. Neither source is a Phonemax model report.
Why the same height can produce different evidence
A phone tested in a case and one tested bare are different configurations. Likewise, a soft landing and a rigid impact surface are not interchangeable. A report should make these conditions explicit so procurement can compare the result with the expected handling risk.
Ask what “passed” meant. It might cover appearance, startup, communications or a longer functional sequence. Do not assume that every component was examined merely because the device powered on.
Write a requirement that can be reviewed
Use a statement such as: “Please supply evidence for the offered phone configuration under our specified drop conditions, with the post-test functional checks and any ingress retest listed separately.” Add the intended conditions to the request; do not copy an unexplained 1.5-meter headline into the purchase order as if its method were already agreed.
Can you drop and submerge the sample yourself?
Do not combine improvised destructive tests at work. Agree a test plan with the supplier or a suitable laboratory, including safe handling and what happens to tested samples. For daily use, follow the selected model's instructions and seek advice after damage.
Review the R4-T's listed features, then ask for model-specific protection evidence. This guide does not claim a verified 1.5-meter result for that model.
