Vehicle Thermal Inspection Is Not Driving Night Vision

A phone used to inspect a parked vehicle is not thereby a validated driving night-vision or driver-assistance system. Define the stationary inspection task separately from any proposed in-motion use. This page does not verify vehicle integration or driving assistance for a Phonemax camera.

State the inspection question

Identify the component, the information needed and the safe observation position under the applicable workshop procedure. Decide whether the task requires a thermal pattern, an ordinary photograph or a low-light scene image. These outputs have different interpretations.

Do not assume an image through the windscreen

FLIR explains that ordinary glass is not transparent to thermal cameras in the way it is to visible-light cameras. A successful visible image through a vehicle window therefore does not validate the same thermal view. Any proposed optical path needs its own evidence.

Keep product capabilities in scope

The R4 GT listing describes thermal imaging and night vision in a compact handset. It does not, by that statement, establish an automotive mount, vehicle interface or a reliable driver alert.

Record and review the result

Keep the thermal image and ordinary reference image labeled by mode, with asset identity and the relevant inspection conditions. Refer interpretation to the responsible technician rather than treating a colour pattern as a stand-alone fault diagnosis.

See the automotive inspection task guide for the broader workflow. No moving-vehicle trial is reported here.
