A dual-camera phone can help an inspector record both the object and its heat pattern. The value lies in a clear report that another person can interpret, not simply in having two camera labels on a specification sheet.
Capture context before detail
Take a visible image that shows where the component is located, then a thermal image from a documented distance. Record the time, ambient conditions and the operating state of the equipment. This helps a reviewer distinguish one component from another.
Check how images pair
Some apps place a thermal overlay on a visible photo; others save separate files. Ask which format the exact model exports and whether thermal measurements remain available after export. Test alignment on a near and a distant target before using overlays to point to a specific part.
Write a repeatable record
Keep image filenames, equipment identifiers and follow-up action together. For critical decisions, use a suitable reference measurement and qualified procedure. A phone image supports inspection notes, but does not automatically establish the cause of a fault.
