A phone that combines a visible-light image with a thermal image can make inspection notes easier to interpret. The useful question is whether the two views align well enough at the distances and angles used on site.
Test the same target twice
Photograph a known component at close and normal working distances. Compare the thermal overlay with the visible edges. Because the cameras occupy different physical positions, alignment can change with distance. Record any offset before relying on an overlay to identify a specific part.
Check the saved evidence
Confirm whether the app exports the thermal image, visible image and measurement metadata separately or only as a merged picture. Inspect the file format and timestamp in the reporting system. If measurements inform maintenance decisions, preserve the original data and note environmental conditions.
Choose the right workflow
For rapid documentation, a combined view may be enough. For precise localization or repeatable measurements, test the alignment and calibration process explicitly. Ask the supplier for the exact dual-camera configuration before comparing model claims.
