ODM Phone Enclosures: Write a Change-to-Evidence Review

When an ODM project changes a phone enclosure, record which parts changed and what evidence must be reviewed before release. A retained model name does not show that a revised opening, material or assembly has the same protection performance as an earlier sample.

Describe the change in physical terms

“New housing” is too broad for a useful review. Identify the affected drawing, part revision and assembly step. Include a comparison with the approved configuration and ask the responsible engineering team which functions or evidence could be affected.

Change Review question
New opening or control Which interfaces and closure arrangements change?
Material or finish What property and assembly differences need assessment?
Connector location What happens to access, cable fit and surrounding parts?
Assembly revision Which instructions and verification records need updating?

Do not prescribe a test solely from a marketing phrase

Provide the intended exposure and operating task, then agree the verification plan with the supplier or suitable laboratory. A “1.5-meter” headline lacks the configuration, duration and assessment details needed for a complete plan.

The IEC 60529 listing identifies enclosure protection classification. It is not a ruling that every cosmetic change requires retesting, nor proof that a structural change can be ignored. The project review must determine the applicable evidence.

Make the release decision inspectable

Keep the requested change, engineering assessment, agreed checks and approval together. Identify unresolved questions and who can close them. If the sample differs from the drawings or report, resolve the mismatch before authorizing production.

Carry the revision into the order

Use the approved configuration reference in the quotation and order record. Make a later substitution a new review item rather than allowing it to disappear into the same product name.

This is a proposed change-control approach, not a promise of a specific Phonemax redesign, test plan or retained rating. Send Phonemax the platform, requested change and intended use to discuss feasibility and the evidence needed for sample approval.
