Waterproof Phone Tests: Qualification vs Production Checks

A model qualification report and production checks provide different evidence. The first records a defined test on identified samples; the second describes how a supplier checks manufactured units. Ask about both before interpreting a waterproof claim as proof of every delivered phone's condition.

Separate the evidence by purpose

Evidence Question it can help answer
Qualification report What happened to the named sample configuration under stated conditions?
Process record What assembly or production controls are documented?
Routine unit check What was checked on the unit and against which criteria?
Lot inspection What was reviewed for the delivery and what exceptions were found?

Read the sample count literally

If a report identifies three tested samples, it does not say that all 500 units in a later order underwent the same test. Likewise, a check performed on every unit may have a different method and purpose from the qualification procedure. These numbers are illustrative, not Phonemax production data.

Ask for the checks' names, scope and records rather than relying on “100% tested.” Do not invent a defect rate or confidence level from a sample count without an appropriate inspection plan and supporting data.

Connect the report to the released configuration

Confirm that the model, housing and relevant assembly revision match the offered configuration. If the supplier proposes a substitution, ask what review determines whether the existing evidence remains applicable.

The IEC 60529 publication provides the enclosure-classification framework. It does not specify the actual routine checks used by a particular manufacturer or establish a Phonemax 1.5-meter result.

Write a clear evidence request

Request the model qualification document, a description of the proposed production checks and the delivery records available for your order. Agree how exceptions will be reported before dispatch and how the supplied configuration will be identified on receipt.

This is a proposed evidence review, not a factory audit or a statement of Phonemax's inspection process. For traceability from sample to delivery, read the sample-to-lot guide, then confirm the available records with Phonemax.
