Thermal Phone Accuracy: How to Verify a ±2°C Claim

A ±2°C thermal-phone accuracy claim needs conditions and supporting evidence for the exact device. Do not treat the number as an unconditional guarantee, or infer it from thermal sensitivity, resolution or a temperature shown on the screen. This page does not verify a ±2°C specification for a Phonemax handset.

Ask for the complete accuracy statement

Request the applicable temperature range, ambient conditions, target requirements and any percentage-based term or other qualification. If the supplier states both a degree limit and a percentage, ask how the limits are applied; do not silently discard one part of the specification.

Keep sensitivity in a separate field

The current P20 Pro thermal specification graphic lists 256 × 192 resolution, NETD ≤50mK and a −15°C to 550°C measurement range. Those entries describe different properties and do not, by themselves, establish a ±2°C error limit.

Review the measurement setup

FLIR's thermal-camera guidance identifies distance, ambient temperature and emissivity among the factors affecting measurement accuracy. Use the instructions for the actual device; settings or capabilities described in another manufacturer's manual should not be assumed to exist in the supplied phone.

Record what has actually been demonstrated

  • Identify the handset, thermal module and software used in the report.
  • Request the reference equipment, method, conditions and measured results.
  • Check whether those conditions cover the intended inspection task.
  • Refer any acceptance-critical measurement requirement to a qualified evaluator; do not use an illustrative thermal image as calibration evidence.

A manufacturer specification and an independent measurement report are different evidence. This guide contains no original calibration results and does not establish medical or safety-critical measurement suitability.
